The Peaks of the Balkans is a 192km circular long-distance hiking trail crossing Kosovo, Albania, and Montenegro through the Accursed Mountains (Prokletije / Bjeshket e Nemuna). This iconic trail passes through remote mountain villages, crosses international borders on foot, traverses alpine meadows above 2,000 meters, and rewards hikers with views of dramatic limestone peaks reaching over 2,500m. The primary hiking season runs from June to October. July and August offer the warmest weather and longest days for high-altitude trails. June and September provide cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. Winter hiking with snowshoes is available December through March in the Sharr Mountains.
